MÅLERIER (EIT UTVAL)
"Influenced by Michael Raedecker, Peter Doig and Dexter Dalwood, Jorunn Haugse takes a very different approach to the possibilities of painting, portraying a fantasy world peopled by creatures of the imagination. In one painting, black feline humanoids drag carts and carry heavy suitcases around a snow capped mountainscape, followed by squat pig-like creatures and bright red cockatoo. In another painting a couple of humanoids walk home through a snowy valley carrying a bucket of cherries. Morning (Trumpet) shows a figure playing the trumpet to an audience of pink flamingos, parrots and a black owl. A narrative of sorts emerges, but Haugse isn't giving anything away. The paintings have all the sinister characteristics we might expect to find in a Hans Christian Anderson or Grimm Brothers tale. " Neil Mulholland for www.midwest.org.uk
